Why Acne Persists (Even When You’re “Doing Everything Right”)

Acne is not simply a hygiene issue and it is rarely just clogged pores.

Breakouts occur when several internal and external factors intersect:

  • Hormonal fluctuation (especially jawline patterning)
  • Chronic stress and elevated cortisol
  • Barrier disruption from over-exfoliation
  • Inflammatory responses
  • Excess sebum production
  • Incorrect layering of active ingredients

Many clients arrive using strong acids, retinol, benzoyl peroxide — sometimes all at once. The intention is correction. But the result is often irritation, barrier damage and rebound oil production. When the barrier is compromised, inflammation increases — and so do breakouts. Acne becomes cyclical.

The 4 Common Acne Patterns We See

Not all acne behaves the same. Treating them identically leads to frustration.

1️⃣ Congestion-Dominant AcneBlackheads, whiteheads, uneven texture. Often responds well to controlled exfoliation — once the barrier is stable.

2️⃣ Inflammatory AcneRed, tender lesions. Driven by inflammation and immune response.

3️⃣ Hormonal Pattern AcneTypically jawline and chin. Often cyclical. Requires regulation — not aggression.

4️⃣ Barrier-Compromised AcneSensitive, reactive, easily irritated skin. Often worsened by overuse of actives.

Understanding the pattern determines the pathway.

Why Aggressive Treatment Often Backfires

Stripping the skin may reduce oil temporarily

.But long term it can:

  • Increase transepidermal water loss
  • Stimulate rebound sebum production
  • Trigger inflammation
  • Increase post-acne pigmentation
  • Sensitise skin further

Correction without calming the skin first often prolongs the cycle. This is why some clients see short bursts of improvement — followed by flare-ups.

Why Adult Acne Is Different

Adult acne behaves differently to teenage acne.It is often:

  • Hormone influenced
  • Stress mediated
  • Slower to heal
  • More prone to pigmentation
  • More sensitive to over-treatmentWhich is why “teen acne protocols” are rarely appropriate for adult skin.

Structured regulation works better than intensity.

 Our Clear Skin Code Approach

We treat acne in phases — not single sessions.

# Phase 1 – Calm & Strengthen

Repair barrier. Reduce inflammation. Remove over-stimulation.

# Phase 2 – Regulate

Balance sebum production. Introduce controlled exfoliation.

# Phase 3 – Correct

Target congestion, inflammation and pigmentation strategically.

# Phase 4 – Maintain

Prevent recurrence with structured home care and periodic clinical support.

We focus on long-term skin stability — not quick suppression.

Timeline Expectations

Acne correction is progressive.

Most structured programs run:8–16 weeks Depending on pattern and severity.

Clients typically notice:

✔ Reduced inflammation

✔ Fewer active breakouts

✔ Faster healing time

✔ Improved texture

✔Less post-inflammatory pigmentation

Consistency of treatments & recommended home-care determines the outcome.---

When To Seek Structured Support

If you are experiencing:

  • Breakouts lasting more than 3 months
  • Recurring jawline acne
  • Sensitivity from active products
  • Pigmentation after healing
  • Frustration despite trying multiple products

A structured acne pathway may be appropriate.
